The Athens City Schools have won numerous educational awards and has made 100% on state adequate yearly progress reports each year. The system has 4 elementary schools (k-4), an intermediate school (5-6), a middle school (7-8) and a high school (9-12). Busing is available for non-high school students.

Athens Bible School is a private K-12 school associated with the Churches of Christ. A new campus is in the works. The school has about 330 students and offers sports and extracurricular activities.

Lindsay Lane Christian Academy


Lindsay Lane Christian Academy is a private K-12 school operated by Lindsay Lane Baptist Church. It offers sports and extracurricular activities and has a dyslexia intervention center.

Athens State University is located in downtown Athens. Athens State is a University that offers the final two years of college to the States many community college students


Calhoun Community College


Alabama's largest 2-year college is just a 10 minute drive south of Athens. Calhoun offers a wide variety of majors and currently has over 12,000 students. Many area students take the first 2 years of college at Calhoun then transfer to Athens State for the final 2 years.
