Athens Utilities is a department of the City of Athens, Alabama, providing electricity, gas, and water/wastewater services covering 607 square miles that make-up Athens and Limestone County. Since 1906 Athens Utilities has provided power, expanding services as the area has grown from a small rural town to an energetic and progressive community.
Athens Utilities maintains 15 substations, five of which are delivery points for TVA. The system consists of over 2,000 miles of power lines and 50,000 utility poles and is maintained by 67 linemen and support staff and covers 607 square miles. We are constantly researching and planning ways to improve system quality and reliability.
