You register in person or via phone at the Athens Municipal Court. The cost is $100 and it is due at the time of registration. Please refer to the Defensive Driving School section for eligibility requirements.
If today is your court date, you need to get to court as soon as possible. Once the Judge leaves the bench, a warrant will be issued for your arrest and your driving privileges will be suspended.

Any payment arrangements, other than paying in full, will require the Judge’s approval. This can be done on your court date. Once payment amount and frequency have been established, we will gladly process your partial payment.
An arraignment date is the opportunity to be informed of the charge(s) filed against you and to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. If you plead guilty, your fine and court cost will be assessed that day and a payment due date or partial payments will be established. If you plead not guilty, your case will be set on a later date for trial. A trial is a formal judicial proceeding where evidence is presented by both sides. This will be a trial without a jury.
If you believe that someone has committed a crime against you, within the city limits of Athens, Alabama, you must file a police report with the Athens Police Department. After that report is approved, you may pick it up from their records department at the cost of $10. Once you have done so, you will bring your report across the hall to the Court Clerk’s office and a Magistrate will guide you through the next step of the process.
Applications for firefighter will be accepted when a position becomes available. Upon position availability, a Job Announcement will be posted by Human Resources. All completed applications(must include CPAT form and any certifications) shall be submitted by the closing date on the announcement to be considered. Potential candidates will then be contacted for testing when the process begins. Yes. The closing date for general openings is listed on the particular job posting. The application must be received by 4:30 p.m. on the closing date, even if mailed. Once the closing date is over, applications will no longer be accepted for that position unless the position is reopened.
The closing date for Police Officer applications is the last day of each month.
The City of Athens accepts applications for police officers in 30 day intervals regardless of vacancy status. For all other positions, the city accepts applications only for the jobs that are currently vacant and posted. What to do if my power is out?
1. Go to your main electrical panel to see if a fuse has blown or a breaker has tripped. Fuses must be replaced while breakers need only be reset.2. If this phone number is recognized by the computer, it will locate your account information for the system control operator to radio the repair crew. If the number is not found, you will be transferred to our dispatch operator or you may leave a voice message providing us with your name, a number where you can be reached, and your address. What happens after I leave my information on the IVR? The information recorded by the IVR system during every call is automatically input into Athens Utilities outage management system and repair crews are immediately dispatched.
