Job Title: Part time Engineering Co-op

Hours and days per week may vary. Part-time temporary only.

Job duties will include but are not limited to: familiarization with the function and operation of equipment used in electrical distribution system; perform computerized system modeling using MilSoft software including modifying databases as needed, load flow analysis, short circuit studies, overcurrent device coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis; use of SCADA system for programming and operation, power factor correction, voltage reduction control and one-line diagrams; use communication systems such as 900 Mhz radio and fiber optics.

Qualifications include but not limited to:

18 years or older
Valid Driver’s license
High School diploma or GED
College Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree or related field; 3.0 GPA preferred
Computer literate: Microsoft software, AutoCAD, telephone, and e-mail; ability to work outdoors; must be self-motivated with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, strong organization and time management skills
Ability to perform all essential functions with or without accommodation.

JOB SUMMARY: This position performs technical duties in support of the maintenance of the electric utility right-of-way.

MAJOR DUTIES: Checks vegetation management call-in tickets; communicates with customer/property owners; reports findings to the Right-of-Way Manager. Checks time and material crews to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and safe manner. Inspects circuits for potential tree removals; communicates with property owners to obtain permission to remove hazardous trees. Assists in directing traffic for work crews in high traffic areas. Performs pole inspections; documents poles in need of attention or replacement; reports information to Manager. Checks trees and limbs on line calls during outage and storm situations; reports findings to Supervisor; assists contract tree crews as needed. Assists the Supervisor with circuit audits as needed. Applies pesticides and herbicides at headquarters and substation as needed; mulches beds and trims trees and shrubs. Performs related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 18 year or older. High School Diploma, GED and/or equivalent work experience. Valid Driver’s license. Sufficient experience usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries Pesticide Applicator Permit within six months of date of hire. Possession of or ability to readily obtain ISA Arborist certification and ISA Specialist certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color. The work is typically performed in an office or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and electrical hazards, and sometimes works in enclosed spaces. Work requires the use of personal protective equipment. Physical strength, ability, and mobility to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodation. JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for directing and managing financial operations for City of Athens utilities departments.

MAJOR DUTIES: Assists department heads with the budgeting processes for electric, gas, and water services utilities; works with department heads to develop and manage department budgets. Reviews all budgets with General Manager of Utilities. Assists with the development of financial forecasts for electric, gas, and water services utilities. Assists with user rate model development and updates for the electric, gas, and water services departments. Reviews and approves expense statements; signs checks for all utility departments. Manages insurance policies for the utility departments; monitors risk management to ensure adequate coverage; manages insurance claims for utility departments. Work with local, state, and federal agencies to apply for grants, such as those available through the Public Assistance program, which reimburses communities for a significant portion of eligible disaster costs. Ensure financial records are complete and organized for any audits conducted by state or federal authorities. Work with TVA and external auditors with the preparation of annual departmental audits. Along with utility department heads, work with S&P and/or Moody’s Rating Agencies in the preparation of their forward-looking credit opinions for each utility department. Provide necessary assistance in the acquisition of capital improvement funding through the Municipal Bond market. Manages debt to ensure compliance with internal controls. Manages bank transfers and the wiring of money. Oversees the optimization of finance software; researches and recommends new software and hardware technology as needed. Prepares and oversees Finance Department budget. Hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel. Assists with and resolves finance related customer service issues. Assists Customer Accounts Department as needed to ensure day to day operational needs are maintained. Performs related duties.
