The new Athens Recreation & Fitness Center is scheduled to open during the summer of 2020. In addition to the fitness gym, we will have fantastic instructors offering the following classes:
A type of group exercise class that incorporates some or many forms of dance. It’s an aerobic workout, divided into different tracks that provide peaks and troughs of intensity. The overall intensity of a class varies depending on the style you’re doing. All levels welcome, modifications available.
Uses traditional power yoga poses, incorporates tribal dance and kundalini spiral technique to strengthen and tone your entire body. It’s a completely unique workout experience! All levels welcome, modifications available.
Yoga to Barre:
This class brings yoga to the barre. You will strengthen and tone your body using a variety of traditional barre techniques as well incorporating yoga poses to help with flexibility and strength. All levels welcome, modifications available.
Strength Training/Body Works:
Works your muscles by using resistance, like a dumbbell or your own body weight. This type of exercise increases lean muscle mass, which is particularly important for weight loss, because lean muscle burns more calories than other types of tissue. All levels welcome.
Circuit training is a form of body conditioning, endurance, and resistance training using high-intensity aerobics. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise "circuit" is one completion of all set exercises in the program. All levels welcome, modifications available.
Generally include a mix of aerobic, strength training, and speed elements. This is essentially a type of interval training — bursts of intense activity alternated with intervals of lighter activity. All levels welcome, modifications available.
High-intensity interval training, also called high-intensity intermittent exercise or sprint interval training, is a form of interval training, a cardiovascular exercise strategy alternating short periods of intense anaerobic exercise with less intense recovery periods. These exercises strengthen and train your lower back, hips, abdomen and pelvis to work together for better balance and stability. All levels welcome, modifications available.
This class is a timed high intensity interval training class that will fuse plyometrics, cardio and strength training into one action packed hour of class. All levels welcome, modifications available.
