Parks
The Athens Parks and Recreation has 7 parks spread throughout the city including All Kids Park (formally Kids Dugout) at the Athens Sportsplex for the citizens of Athens to enjoy.
Please note: Jimmy Gill Park was located on industrial land that has been sold to Toyota Boshoku. The company is providing $300,000 for the city to relocate and improve Jimmy Gill Park, which will be relocated in the near vicinity. Councilman Gill's widow, Deborah Gill, and friend David Malone, who helped on the original park project, said Councilman Gill would have welcomed the new jobs as long as the park was moved and reopened in that area. The City of Athens will provide updates as they become available.
The pavilions at the parks can be rented at the Athens Recreation Center for $30 per day (additional $25 for kitchenette). Only the pavilions can be rented. The parks will remain open to the public even if the pavilion is rented.
Reservations can be made Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. Saturday 7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m., and Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. No refunds unless inclement weather prohibits the use of the facility, or a cancellation is requested at least two weeks prior to the rental date
All community events must be authorized by the Parks and Recreation Director Bert Bradford.
Park hours are from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.
