Defensive Driving School



Eligibility

If you have been cited for a moving violation that is listed on our schedule of fines, you may be eligible for Driving School. Following the guidelines in place by the Judge, a Magistrate may register a person for Driving School, prior to their court date.  Requirements are as follows:

  • You must be going 24 miles or less over the posted speed limit
  • You have not attended driving school with Athens Municipal Court more than twice in a two-year period
  • You were traveling at a speed less than 80 mph.
Note: These guidelines are for Magistrates only. If you appear in court, the Judge will determine your eligibility.
* In accordance with Federal Law, any person who possesses a commercial driver license will be prohibited from attending any Defensive Driving Course. 

 ​Cost
The cost of Driving School is $100.00 plus court cost.  Acceptable forms of payment are cash, money order, debit or credit.  The $100 registration fee must be paid at the time of registration.  Registration may now be done over the phone with a debit or credit card and a valid email address.  The fee for Driving School is non-refundable.  The court cost of $190.00 will be due upon completion of the Driving School.

Driving School Schedule


Driving School is always held on a Monday night from 6:00-10:00 pm. The date will depend on what is available at the time of your registration.  


                                            No online classes will be accepted.
You must appear in court and be granted permission from the Judge to take any class not offered by Athens Municipal Court.
